The cockroach has spawned derivative species. Some opportunistic. Some aspirational. At least one is trying to make a satire into a sangh.
Five days in, the cockroach has reproduced. The Bureau on Adjacent Insects has identified the following derivative entities, in descending order of editorial rigour. Two are real. The remainder are illustrative. Both categories are, in the Bureau's experience, equally inevitable.
The only widely-reported rival. Pitched as the "formal opposition" to CJP. Mock-manifesto features include a Ministry of Rizz, situationship resolution within ninety days, pothole accountability, and a 12th-pass minimum for candidates. Coverage: Tribune, Sunday Guardian, others. Origin: unclear, possibly anonymous, possibly four friends in a group chat at 1 a.m. The Bureau notes four friends in a group chat at 1 a.m. is also, by Election Commission records, the median founding configuration of an Indian political party.
Launched by Dipke himself on X within hours of @CJP_2029's withholding. Not a copycat — a continuation. Functions as a control variable: anything calling itself "the new official CJP" on X that is not this handle is, by definition, not the new official CJP. Useful diagnostic. Will not survive the second withholding, but is presently doing the work.
Not yet documented. Will be, by Friday. Will claim to be the "culturally rooted" version. Will replace the Latin binomial with a Sanskrit one. Will insist the cockroach is, and always was, an indigenous resilience symbol predating the Mauryan empire. Will accept donations. Will issue receipts. Will eventually deny ever having endorsed anyone. Will continue endorsing.
Will arrive flying a saffron variant of the CJP logo. Will quote the Vedas in support of a position the Vedas did not take. Will denounce the Boston University degree of the founder while citing, in the same press release, statistics from a Harvard Kennedy School white paper. Will demand the satire be banned. Will simultaneously demand the satire be franchised. The Bureau's clinical assessment: this is the category that turns a joke into a movement, and a movement into a membership form, and a membership form into an indemnity clause. Watch for it.
Will arrive with a flag, a slogan, and a list of grievances unrelated to the original judicial remark. Will claim the original CJP "sold out" by remaining peaceful. Will propose direct action, defined elsewhere in the Lexicon as "action with a press release pre-drafted by the lawyer." Will not last the monsoon session. Will, however, last long enough to be quoted.
Will be announced before consultation with any actual women. Will be defended as "empowering" in the same press release that lists no women on the founding committee. Will, on closer inspection, be three men and a press secretary. The press secretary will, in fairness, be a woman.
Will form to oppose the cockroach. Will not understand that the cockroach is the host, not the predator. Will accept the diagnosis as the disease. Will run candidates. Will lose. Will return in five years with the same name and a new logo. The Bureau has, in its taxonomy, a species for this. The species has held office repeatedly.
A YouTube video and a thread of right-leaning publications have begun running the "Dipke is an AAP plant, the followers are bots, the movement is propaganda" framing. The Bureau notes: this is the standard response to any inconvenient satire that has crossed the ten-million mark. The framing is, structurally, the same framing used against every recent organic movement. The framing is also, on the record, sometimes correct. Both can be true. The reader is invited to do the work the headline declined to do.
Cited: OpIndia, Free Press Journal, one prolific YouTube channel. See sources below. The Bureau on Adjacent Insects publishes the following diagnostic markers. If any three or more appear in a single derivative account within twenty-four hours, the derivative has crossed from satire into movement, and the movement is no longer the Bureau's department:
- M1Replaces Ampulex compressa with a religious or nationalist binomial.
- M2Accepts donations. Issues receipts. Files an 80G.
- M3Names a living individual as a villain rather than a specimen.
- M4Calls for action that requires a permit the organisers do not intend to apply for.
- M5Issues a flag. The flag has a colour. The colour is doing the work.
- M6Adopts the language of "the people" in a sentence where "the people" is, on close reading, three Telegram administrators.
- M7Demands the satire be banned, then demands the satire be franchised, in the same week.
The original CJP, for the record, has triggered zero of these markers. That is what makes it worth defending. That is also what makes it worth withholding, if you happen to be on the wrong side of the diagnosis.
