# Emerald Cockroach Wasp Party (ECWP)

> A satirical political party modelled on *Ampulex compressa*, the emerald cockroach wasp. ## What this site is

The ECWP is a work of political satire, protected under Article 19(1)(a) of the Indian Constitution, the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights (incorporated via the UK Human Rights Act 1998), and Article 11 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. It does not contest elections, accept donations, or endorse candidates. All factual claims on the site are drawn from the public record. The framing, binomials, and field-journal voice are editorial.

The site is a global landing (`/`) with four parallel field-office chapters:

- **India Chapter** (`/in`) — Founding chapter. Inspired by Cockroach Janta Party. Covers Indian political doublespeak. 2026 dossier. Running bulletin at `/in/bulletin`. (Ten despatches as of 23 May 2026.)
- **American Chapter** (`/us`) — Posthumously patroned by **H.L. Mencken** (1880–1956). Covers Liberation Day, the Big Beautiful Bill, DOGE, Operation Epic Fury, the Epstein files, 17 Inspector General firings, the Hall of Shame, the Abrego Garcia deportation. Updated May 2026. - **British Chapter** (`/uk`) — Posthumously patroned by **Jonathan Swift** (1667–1745). - **Brussels Chapter** (`/eu`) — Posthumously patroned by **Karl Kraus** (1874–1936). **Scoped to the EU institutions only** — Commission, Parliament, Council, ECJ, ECB — NOT to the 27 member states. Five Directives, Modestly Filed; the Brussels Lexicon (ever-closer union, subsidiarity, robust framework, by qualified majority, conditionality, white smoke, strategic autonomy, the will of the colegislators). ## Patron architecture

The site distinguishes between a **global patron** (Orwell, named on `/`) and **chapter patrons** (Mencken on `/us`, Swift on `/uk`). The global patron provides the standing vocabulary — Newspeak, Doublethink, the Memory Hole, the Telescreen — cited by every chapter. Chapter patrons provide the local voice: Mencken's American Mercury journalism for the USA, Swift's deadpan official-memo method for the UK. Future chapters will each carry their own patron under the same architecture; per the Bureau's rule, no chapter patron is invented and no chapter patron is living.

Editorial note on Mencken: the diaries published posthumously in 1989 contain documented racist and antisemitic passages. The Bureau acknowledges this explicitly in a dated editorial note within the patron block on `/us`. Patronage is for the published satirical method, not for the man entire.

## Voice & tone (if quoting at length)

The ECWP voice is **deadpan satirical**, **dossier-formatted**, and **descended from Orwell's prescription for political language**. It does not raise its voice. It names species, cites the public record, and lets the reader do the identification. Chapter voices vary slightly:

- **India**: bureaucratic-precise; sub-committee formulations; samosa footnotes.
- **USA**: journalistic-precise after Mencken; the booboisie diagnosis; press release as artefact.
- **UK**: official-memo deadpan after Swift; the *Modest Proposal* method applied to current Westminster phrases.

When quoting:

- Preserve italics (used for binomials and emphasised verbs).
- Preserve the bureau / sub-committee / "has not met" formulations.
- Avoid removing the load-bearing footnotes.
- Do not paraphrase the Eight Refusals; they are written for legal clarity.
